An open letter to Lisa Umbarger (former bassist for The Toadies)
Hey there,
I caught myself listening to your old band's record (Possum Kingdom) just now.
I liked it then and I dig it now, but I owe you an apology...
It would have been 1994 or maybe 95, Grand Rapids, Michigan. Afternoon outdoor gig. There were three or four high school assholes just laughing at you guys for most of your set.
There's no way that you remember this stupid little "event" in what must have been yet another crazy year, but if you do... And even if you don't...
I remember it and I'm sorry for my part in that. The sick part is that it had absolutely nothing to do with the band or the performance and we all walked away talking about what jerks we were to be just laughing right at people trying to entertain a rather meager crowd... But we were too young to make it right, I guess.
Looking back on it, I still remember the energy you brought to even that wee little daytime show... Your intensity has stuck with me. Thanks for that and the music.
Anyway, from 20 years ago...
Sorry Lisa,
Chris (the longest haired asshole that day)
